BCS: Bull Crap System

Anyone a college football fan? Am I the only one that hates the BCS system? The BCS system reflects everything about sports nowadays, its all about money. There are 5 BCS games. That means there are 10 teams receiving BCS bids every year. Just for participating in the game, the school is paid 14 million dollars. Win, lose, or draw, your school gets that money. Also, everything is sponsored by some big company. There’s the All-State Sugar Bowl, the FedEx Orange bowl, The Papa Johns Bowl. But the worst part about the whole situation, the one thing that any college football fan will tell you, is the way the BCS teams are chosen is just flat out stupid. Yeah I said it. All the BCS is, is a computer system. Every teams strength of schedule, overall win/loss, conference record, and the point differential that they have either won or lossed by, is put into this computer and are ranked 1-119. The top 2 teams play for the National Championship. That means if a team in a “no name” league goes undefeated and a team from a big name conference losses 2 games, the team from the big name conference will play for the national title while the small conference school plays in some small bowl game that’s aired at 3 am on a weds. Like I said, its stupid. The greatest example of this happened 2 years ago when Boise State, from the Western Atlantic Conference, went undefeated and got a bid in a BCS game. They were to face the Big 12 champs, Oklahoma, who I believe lost a few games that year. Just because Boise State was in a no name conference, no body gave them a chance. The result was the best game ever played in sports history. Boise State won in OT. But to many times, the BCS has been wrong, Such as in 2003 when it ranked USC and Oklahoma the top 2 teams. USC scored 55 points in a blow out game and easily won the national title. Or one year, There were co-national champs. ARE YOU KIDDING ME. USC won the rose bowl and LSU won another BCS game. USC was at the top of the BCS rankings, and LSU was at the top of the USA Today rankings. Finally my solution. We throw out this stupid BCS crap and have a playoff. That’s right a playoff.  A 16 team tournament to decide the national champion. That means there would be14 games played. Each game has a different sponsor. Each team that makes the tournament gets paid the same amount of money, and the sponsors still get there money to. But then everyone will want to host the national championship game, right? Then in that case, the location and is cycled every year, so each year a new sponsor and stadium can host the game. The top 16 teams in the AP ranking make the tournament. This would be so much more exciting for the players and fans. Look how much popularity March Madness is. But the question is, probably not. Why? Like I said before, its all about money.
